Full bio

Victor (O) Babatunde did not start in a boardroom. He started in a photography lab in Mokola, Ibadan, editing images on Photoshop CS3, learning by doing, and realising early that the act of making something for someone else was the most meaningful thing he could imagine doing with his time. That instinct has never left him.

Over the decade that followed, Victor built a career that defies easy categorisation. He is an AI designer, technology founder, researcher, design leader, educator, and social architect, but the thread running through everything is the same: he is found doing things that help people live their best lives.

His early career moved fast. By 2017, he was the pioneer Lead for Brand and Product Design at Extramile Africa, where his design work contributed directly to over $2 million raised across different funding rounds. That same year, while studying Industrial Design at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, he was elected Welfare Director of the Students' Union. In that role, he founded the FUTASU Scholarship for Indigent Students, raising over $2,000 to keep 45 students in school. The scholarship still runs today, nine years later, having supported over 300 students.

In 2018, he walked into FourthCanvas by pitching on the spot and got hired. There he worked on campaign design for Nigeria's 2019 presidential election and the re-election of Senegalese President Macky Sall. By 2019 he had joined Tech4Dev, producing over 300 design assets that reached millions of learners and drove a 61% enrollment increase. In that same period, he was awarded the Student Leadership Award at the Excellence and Productivity Awards of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

The years that followed were defined by co-founding. Victor joined Byte as a senior designer and rose to co-founder — a venture-backed AI-powered fintech for African businesses — growing from Head of Design to equity partner with a 4% stake. His AI implementation work at Byte drove 100% month-over-month user growth and a 32% increase in revenue. Byte was later selected for Expert DOJO W23 in Santa Monica. Alongside Byte, he founded Medipt Africa, a digital health platform that puts everything healthcare in one place, and led brand design and marketing at Prunedge.

In 2023, Victor founded Sane AI, a UK-registered AI-powered mental health platform built to catch distress before it becomes crisis. Within two years, Sane AI earned backing from the Ondo State Government, the Kingdom of Netherlands, Wema Bank, and Lagos State Government. It was accepted into Orange Corners Nigeria and the LSETF Idea Hub Program, and won Hackaholics 6.0 as a Top Winner, placing 4th from 1,460 competing startups and receiving prize money. The platform has been covered by TechCabal, Guardian Nigeria, Daily Trust, Nigerian Tribune, Codian, and BusinessDay.

Also in 2023, Victor co-founded AI4Africa, an initiative to close the AI literacy gap across the continent. AI4Africa has since educated thousands of learners across Africa and runs an Entrepreneurs-in-Residence programme spanning health, education, agriculture, and climate. He also founded HealthGap Africa, a non-profit healthcare community of stakeholders, and the VOB Foundation, focused on community impact and youth development.

Beyond building, Victor writes. His opinion pieces on AI, product design, healthcare, and African technology have been published in BusinessDay, Vanguard, Codian, Daily Trust, and ThisDay. He has published 6 academic papers in AI-driven mental health, healthcare optimisation, and fintech systems — work that bridges the gap between research and practice.

He serves as a mentor at ADPList, working with designers navigating the same early questions he once faced. He is an InVision Design Leadership Fellow, a McKinsey Forward Fellow, an Expert DOJO alumnus, and has served as a design consultant for Techpoint Africa, Africa's leading technology media company. He holds a B.Tech and M.Tech in Industrial Design from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
